Wimbledon 2023 wrapped up with a men’s final tennis masterclass, and social media didn't miss out on the action.
Global interest in Wimbledon was highlighted in this latest edition of the championships. Social media engagement for Wimbledon-related content from brands, publishers, and influencers around the world reached more than 159 million actions - a 113% increase over 2022.
Analyzing this data by country, the increase in interactions on social networks was a trend we saw in multiple markets. Host nation the UK saw total actions increase by 170% year-over-year, the US added 8.2 million engagements and several European countries such as Spain (346%), France (132%) and Italy (28%) have shown notable growth in social media interactions. Increased interest in India was reflected in a rise in year-on-year total actions by 361%.
The standout moment for social media engagement during the Wimbledon championships was the men's singles final. On July 16, 2023, the young Spaniard Carlos Alcaraz triumphed over the 7-time Wimbledon winner Serbian Novak Djokovic. The final drove 295% growth in total social actions from the 2022 men’s final.
Alcaraz also overcame Djokovic off the court, in terms of social media engagement. The 20-year-old Spaniard registered 22 million actions – 56% more than Djokovic.
The most popular posts about the championship final registered over 1.7 million and 1.6 million total actions, respectively, and portrayed Carlos Alcaraz as an example of the new era of tennis.

The brands that collaborate with Alcaraz moved on the moment, as demonstrated by content from advertisers like Nike and Rolex.
